Academic Domain Error - University Network Not Recognized for WLS License
AnsweredHello Gurobi Community,
I am a student at the German University in Cairo (Egypt) trying to request an Academic WLS license. I am physically on campus, using a university PC connected directly to the campus network, but I am receiving an "Academic Domain Error" stating that my IP/network is not recognized as belonging to an academic domain.
My Situation:
- I am connected to my university's network (not via VPN, direct campus connection)
- Using a university computer on campus
- I have a valid university email address from an .edu.eg domain
- Trying to generate an Academic WLS license through the Gurobi portal
What I've Tried:
- Verified I'm on the campus network (not a personal/mobile connection)
- Attempted from multiple university PCs on campus
- All attempts result in the same "Academic Domain Error"
My Question: Has anyone else from universities in Egypt or the Middle East/North Africa region encountered this issue? It appears that my university's IP range may not be in Gurobi's recognized academic domains database yet.
Is there a specific process for getting a university's network added to the recognized list, or are there alternative ways to obtain an Academic license when the automatic domain recognition doesn't work?
Any guidance or experiences would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Hi Rasheed,
Our Licensing Team will be able to assist you. Please see the following article, in particular the section titled “Still having issues?”, which describes the process for contacting the team.
https://support.gurobi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058679471-How-do-I-resolve-an-Academic-Domain-Error
Note that we don't maintain a list of recognized academic networks, but instead use lookup functions to try and verify the IP address belongs to an academic institution. It is possible to apply to whitelist a range of IP addresses as academic, but the process is not quick or straightforward.
Contacting our Licensing Team, in order to get a license manually issued, should be reasonably quick and straightforward though.
