(urgent need) feasibility of my model in terms of memory usage and computational time

Hi everybody, i just subscribed and i want to know if gurobi is suitable for my problem. I have a mixed integer linear programming problem with more or less 160,000 binary variables and 300,000 constraints. I already now how to define te problem from a mathematical point of view, but i do not now if my laptop can manage it (both constraint matrix and solving) (my laptop has 16 gb ram, i7 7700, legion y720 if you want more info). The question is, can i solve it with gurobi with a free academic license? Which license do i need (i saw there are also web/cloud licenses).

    Hi Luca,

    Whether the 16GB RAM are enough to solve your problem mainly depends on the density of your model. In general, you can only find out if you try it out.

    If you are eligible for a free academic license, then yes, you can solve your model using this license. Since, you want to solve the model on your local machine, you should apply for an individual academic license.

    I am also open to free web solutions if they can be helpful, for example if they gives me more computational power. In case it would be better a web solutions, is there any free academic that i can use?

    You can also use the (Gurobi) Cloud as an academic, see What are the options for using an academic license on the cloud. You only have to pay the machine cost as an academic.
