We encourage academic users to employ Gurobi in their research and to publish results that rely on Gurobi. Advancing the state of the art in optimization benefits the entire community. At the same time, we recognize that benchmarking optimization solvers—such as Gurobi—is inherently complex and resource-intensive to conduct rigorously.
For these reasons, we have adopted a more conservative policy regarding the benchmarking permitted under our Academic License. Recent updates to our EULA (see Section 3.e in Exhibit A) clarify that most publications—specifically, those in which Gurobi is the only commercial solver evaluated—are unaffected and may proceed as usual.
For any other benchmarking scenarios (for example, when you plan to compare Gurobi and other commercial solvers), we ask that you contact us for approval, preferably before starting the benchmarking process. Please note that our review focuses on the proposed methodology, not on the results. This helps ensure that benchmarks are fair and rigorous from the outset. Please direct these requests to benchmarks@gurobi.com. We are committed to supporting academic research and will review such cases promptly.
