Many academic users would like to use Gurobi on multiple computers, such as a university machine, a home computer, a cloud machine, and a laptop.
Gurobi offers a number of options for these situations.
Academic WLS License
A WLS (Web License Service) license allows you to run Gurobi Optimizer wherever you want, across regular machines or container environments (Docker, Kubernetes...). This portable license can be used seamlessly across multiple platforms, including those outside an academic network. Each user should generate a WLS license for their own use.
Educational Institution Site License
Another option that can be used in a computer lab, on a campus network, or with an HPC cluster is a multi-user Educational Institution Site license that provides a central license token server; this eliminates the need to request and set up a license file for each user on each computer.
This type of license must be managed by a system administrator. To request this license, please ask the system administrator to submit a support request in our Help Center.
Named-User Academic License
This type of license can be used by setting up a separate Named-User Academic license file on each machine.
To request additional licenses, please see How do I obtain a free academic license? You can repeat this process until license files are set up on each computer, but it is not recommended for use in a cluster with many nodes.
