Our goal is to provide free academic licenses to qualified students, faculty, and staff at recognized degree-granting academic institutions. This license can only be used for academic purposes like coursework, teaching, and research. When the license expires, you may request that we renew it.
There are three ways for academic users in China, Hong Kong, and Macau to obtain an individual academic license:
- Connect directly to the university network (fastest)
Obtain an academic license using a university computer or computer connected to a university network. Note that once you have obtained an academic WLS license through our web portal while connected to a university network, you can use it on any computer with an internet connection, even when outside the university network. - Connect to your university network through VPN (quick – may require some configuration):
Obtain an academic license using a computer connected to the university network through a VPN that tunnels all traffic through the university network.- Note on VPN: If possible, try configuring your VPN client to use full tunneling, where all traffic is routed through the VPN. - Apply for a Named-User Academic License manually (1-3 business days processing time):

If your Gurobi usage requires that you have a WLS license that can be used on in an HPC environment, you can apply for a WLS Academic License manually. There may be a delay in processing due to the manual verification of Chinese academic documents.
Please request an acaemic WLS license by submitting a support request via Gurobot.
- Visit our Gurobi Help Center.
- Click on the “Get Help" link in the top right corner of the webpage.
- If you are not already logged in, you will be directed to log in to your Gurobi Portal account.
- Submit your question to Gurobot, a chatbot interface that delivers instant, expert-level assistance to users.
- If Gurobot wasn't able to resolve your license or installation issue, you can submit a support request via the ticket icon at the bottom right of the chat response.
- Specify your current Gurobi usage as Academic.
- Specify the type of issue as License request.
- Include the IP address that is being rejected.
- Let us know that you require an academic WLS license, are receiving an "Academic Domain Error" and have already tried the suggestions provided above to no avail.
